Menagerie
New Metatypes & Critters
The Sixth World is a diverse and wondrous place, full of racial variants and creatures hidden in secret corners of the world. Some are coming to light, showcased in scientific journals, the media or simflicks. Revenge of the Yeti was an international hit and created public interest in their preservation, while the mysterious yumboes of the West African coasts are just now becoming publically recognized. Some things want to remain hidden, however, or may be best left undiscovered...
To make much use of any of this, you need a copy of the 4th Edition book Runner's Companion.
Metavariants: Two new metavariants are described here: bahati are human variants that pass unnoticed among the human species until their unusual natures manifest, and the clannish yumbo dwarfs of the West African coasts.
Sapients: A variety of unique new shapeshifters are described here, including the hyena, orca and owl species. The Himalaya-dwelling yeti, white-furred quasi-hominids closely related to sasquatches, are also introduced.
New Metagenetic Qualities
These are positive qualities described for both metavariants and non-human sapients. They can be used as SURGE characteristics for Changelings, if you like; to this end I give BP costs.
Positive Qualities
Breath Control
BP Cost: 5 or 10
You can easily hold your breath for up to 30 minutes; after this period, you can make a Willpower test with a +2 bonus, with each hit allowing you to hold your breath for another minute. For 10 points, you can hold your breath for an hour, with each hit on the Willpower test adding two minutes.
Crippling Bite
BP Cost: 5
For purposes of bite attacks and jaw power, your Strength is considered 2 higher. You can likely crush bone with your jaws.
Disease Resistance
BP Cost: 5
You gain a +4 to all resistance tests against diseases and infections.
Mountaineer
BP Cost: 5 or 10
You gain a +2 bonus to any die pool involving climbing mountains, terrain or rocky surfaces, and can climb such surfaces at your normal walking rate. This bonus can apply to some manmade structures, at the GM's discretion, but not to trees, scaffolding, etc. These benefits only apply while you're barefoot and barehanded, or wearing items that accommodate your unusual foot and hand physiology. Finally, you're able to breathe normally at high altitudes, with efficient lungs able to process the oxygen present in thin air, though you may risk lightheadedness at sea level or where there's a high concentration of oxygen; for 10 BP, you can breathe fine at all altitudes.
Trickster's Favor
BP Cost: 10
Roll a die once per every 24 hours (at the same time every day, your choice, like sunset). On a roll of 1, you lose one Edge point (to a minimum of 0). On a result of 2, nothing happens; your Edge points remain the same. And on a roll of 3-6, you automatically regain one Edge point (up to your maximum). This is in addition to any other Edge gains that day.
