Abominations
A New Approach to a Familiar Monster

While you can go ahead and click on the crunchy bits, below, I beseech you to read the Storyteller's Guide first. I want to make it clear what I'm doing here, and why, and it's a bit much to put on this page. It's more than just "flavor text," it's a setup for everything that follows, putting it in the proper context so it'll all make sense. You're free to ignore it, but do at least read it.

Where the following rules are lacking, when some rule listed can be interpreted in more than one way, or where rules from incompatible systems contradict, apply common sense and go with the most sensible interpretation, or that best maintains game balance. In short, it's a safe bet to go with the interpretation least beneficial to the character in question.

The Storyteller's Guide to Abominations: In the informal style of one Storyteller to another, this page discusses important story issues for those considering introducing an Abomination into their chronicles. It includes tips on maximizing the story potential in the maligned character, and how to avoid eye-rolling among players when introducing the thing.
Corruption: A summary of Abominations' basic abilities and weaknesses. Included is a description of a new trait, Thanatos, which measures the monster's spiritual ties to the Dark Umbra.
Abominable Power: How Gifts and Disciplines function in the context of Abominations, and how they affect them.
Lorrie Dunsirn: A nasty example of an Abomination character expressed through these rules.
I'm very honored that Lorrie Dunsirn appears in the collectible card game Vampire: the Eternal Struggle, and is featured on her very own card. You'll see the artwork in her character writeup, done by Katie McCaskill -- a chillingly faithful rendition of her, I do say. Lorrie went and made daddy proud!
